I’m making ‘We Call Them Pirates’ for my husband, for our anniversary. Probably a funny gift but he doesn’t ‘do’ knits normally and WILL wear a hat in the winter – he works outside. Being Mr. I-Dont-Need-Anything, this should be a good gift!
I’m substituting Knitpicks ‘palette’ in orange and grey and doing it as a double knit on a larger needle. It seems I’m getting correct guage…we’ll see, lol. This is the first time I’ve knitted anything double knit and I’m in love with the whole concept right now! Very cool way to use up a lot of the palette colours I have…I’ve envisioning hats and mittens and scarves (and days that last 38 hours!). You could do a lot of very cool stuff with this double knit thing 🙂
I found an excellent tutorial here, on how to cast on and cast off. The only thing it took me a minute to grasp was moving the yarns out of the way, keeping them on their ‘own’ sides of the work so the sides remain seperate until yarns are crossed.
It’s going to be a marathon effort today…I highly doubt I can finish before tomorrow, BUT, here’s to trying!
The hoodie is coming along beautifully 🙂 I LOVE the lace way more than I expected I would. It’s so great when this happens! Now here’s hoping the size is correct (I foolishly didn’t adjust my stitch count to the guage I’m getting with this yarn)…as far as I can tell it should be ok and I’m keeping my fingers crossed. I can always start again, it’s only knitting, lol.
It’s a slow knit for me…I’m just now at the beginning of the increases for the back.
I’m going to have to do a fibre test on this yarn because I’m so curious! It’s a mystery cone from the second hand store. I’m loving the great deals!
I’m using it to make the Apres Surf Hoodie from the summer IK. My guage is off but I’m going ahead with it anyways…the yarn is a little on the fine side of sock weight. It is so SOFT that I can’t figure out what it is. I’ve never felt cashmere but I’m wondering. Or maybe it has silk in it. It’s going to be the most beautiful sweater, that much I do know 🙂 The drape is excellent!
I’m trying to figure out what these pullies are on my weaving loom. Hopefully these pictures help explain what I mean 🙂
There are these brackets on either side…
Leading up to three pulleys…
The pulleys and the brackets/slots are on either side and I have no clue what they are for! It seems if you ran rope through them, and though the pulleys it would travel over the center pulleys which are attached to the heddle frames.
I used a mystery yarn to make this pattern from knitty. The yarn was found at a second hand store for 50 cents. It has a tag which reads “product number 2L935, 2/6 merino yarn, 100% wool, shade moss, product of Canada, Imported and Distributed by Gerald H Whitaker Ltd/Inc Canada/USA”
I didn’t know for sure if there was enough yardage to make this BUT there was MORE than enough 🙂
It’s for my daughter’s grad, to go over her dress in church… (her dress is teal)
I’m trying to finish things up…too many wips for me!! I’m working on my little lace socks right now and then want to finish spinning the first two plies for the (possibly) cabled yarn I was trying to spin.
If I ever finish these things all up, I’m going to reward myself by knitting the apres surf hoodie from the new IK. I have some fuzzy yarn in my stash that looks just right 😉
