Branching Out…

Knitted with my handspun BFL yarn…

The colours are hard to take pictures of!  In some light it’s more of a coral/salmon but the true colour is more like what you see in the purples/pinks picture.

The pattern is Branching Out from Knitty and I used about 200 yards in my scarf 🙂

Pretty!

I finished my second skein of wheel spun yarn (I’m ignoring the laundry in the background!)

It’s so pretty and yet so SHORT.  I ended up getting 200 metres exactly from 4 oz of roving.  I didn’t weigh the roving so I’m going by the weight I ordered.  I haven’t taken it down from it’s drying hanger yet…the last thing I want is to pack up slightly damp yarn!

Naming it was difficult!  Naming isn’t my strong suit, lol.  I think of lots of names and then think they are silly 🙂   BUT…since I guess I must…I named this one ‘Sunset’.  The shades of purple and pink just made me think of a sunset.

Especially when I wrapped it for skeining…

My goal for next time is to spin a sock weight/light sport.  LOL…good luck to me!  I’m thinking as a guide, I’ll unply some actual fingering weight and keep it handy to compare with.  Honestly, this looked so thin until I measured it!

Miss Daisy spent yesterday with me…like right on me.  I was hoping she was telling me something but nothing so far.  She had shivers or some sort of thing happening all day off and on – was really hoping that was early labor.  Could have been but it’s stopped over night.  I’ll keep you updated!

 Enjoy your day!

Puppy News Or Lack Thereof!

Ok, here is our girl…stubbornly looking more and more pregnant.  This has gone on FOREVER.  Really though…doesn’t this picture read ‘PREGNANT’???

I spun on the new spinning wheel yesterday and made a nice little skein of yarn with some of the mystery roving.  I didn’t mix it like I had in the drop spindle yarn, just used the heathery green/blue without the royal.  It’s about 65 metres.

This gave me some nerve to try spinning the beautiful roving I got for my birthday so I started with the BFL.

It’s so soft and slippery, apparently NOT what they recommend to learn with but I love going against them……..

Isn’t it just too pretty roving!  I’m really enjoying it after all the blue/green I’ve seen lately.

Oh, and I think I know why spinners sell their yarn – because they can’t tear themselves away from spinning long enough to knit it!

Here’s a picture of the beautiful flowers/planter my kids gave me for my birthday…my middle daughter made sure she went out without me to surprise me with it 🙂

Shopping!

My birthday is coming up and it’s that time of year when I get to buy something extravagant wool wise. I make myself stop if I start getting too practical. Birthdays should be for something special!

My pattern is Jeanie from knitty. I’ve decided it has to be a bit smaller…perhaps shorter and maybe one repeat narrower? I have to take a good look at the pattern to see.  There must be a logical way to make it smaller 🙂  The reason being that I found a beautiful yarn which will leave me somewhat short….

It’s Araucania Ranco Multi ‘Peacock’ and I stopped the madness at 3 skeins.

I bought from The Loopy Ewe – a new online shop for me! I’m always excited about ordering yarn 🙂 Love, love the selection at that shop too…and flat rate shipping is always a bonus!

In the spirit of crazy Birthday Spending and because I want to learn how to use my drop spindle and I have dreams of making beautiful wool….

I bought two kinds of roving!   One is bfl in ‘callow lily’ and one is superwash merino in ‘dusty cornflower’.  Both look beautiful on screen.  I can’t wait to see them in person!  Oooh and touch them too 🙂  May they spin for me!

Check it out…Not the colour I bought but SO pretty!

Now the fun of waiting for my excellent package in the mail!
