My Hands Hurt!

100_3961

But….it’s well worth it!

I’m almost done the quilt. It’s turning into a masterpiece of beads and buttons and my daughter is already worried about washing it!

Secrets are hard to keep if you want to work on a project for 10 hours a day, lol.

I must get to it – Christmas is only 8 days away! (yes, I know, technically nine but we’re having our celebration with the family on Christmas Eve this year so I only get eight…)

We’ve got ourselves (and two kids at home), our daughter with her boyfriend, another daughter (with boyfriend possibly), my cousin and her family, my brother and step father. If the list stays as is; 16 people total for Christmas Eve dinner.

I haven’t even done the proper menu yet. I think turkey (of course) and a nice spiral cut ham, homemade cranberry sauce, sweet potato carrot cassarole, roasted onions, turnip (nice and sweet with brown sugar), mashed potato/OR potato balls (these are awesome!), brussel sprouts, peas, corn, fresh bread and rolls, gravy and maybe the white chocolate cranberry cake for desert. I’m going to need to find a nice diabetic desert as well – something to look into yet. Ah yes, and I have to buy a mountain of pickles, especially those little pickled onions (love those!).

It’s going to be a lovely feast and visit! 🙂

Have a great day 🙂

Wow

I know it’s been a while since I posted here on the blog!

If you’re sitting down, I’ll show you the most shocking of the ‘what’s new?’ first…

Ok, I shaved my head. Yes. Really.

And today (did it last night)…

Most shocking?! I’m still me 🙂 As it turns out, femininity is not necessarily in the hair 😉

It was the scariest and most empowering thing I’ve ever done. LOL. When it grows in, I’m going to get one of those really sexy/cute short haircuts. The thing is…I’ve ALWAYS had long hair. Always.

The weirdest thing? It feels GREAT. Seriously great. Doesn’t, perhaps, look so great, lol – but it’s good. And it’s only hair – it will grow back.

And, I’ve been busy – doing lots of things.

Right now I’m a little obsessed with a knitted coat called the ‘silver coat’. It’s a pattern a lady made herself from a coat she saw in a store and she’s generously shared it on ravelry. I’m trying it with my coned ‘wine’ spinrite wool. My guage is way off but I’m making the necessary adjustments to the pattern. It’s a long coat with a full skirt and cable details – an a-line design and very attractive, I think!

I knitted a scarf out of my handspun “unspun” yarn (in violet) – the Prismatic Scarf pattern…

I knitted a sweater for myself, after spinning the jacob super bulky first. It’s a Drops pattern, modified…

I changed the neckline to be a scoop neck, and shortened the yoke…

It’s super cozy…I just need to sew on the buttons, which I already bought (and was shocked at the price of) but haven’t sewn on. A perfect loose knit summer sweater – our house gets really cool even in summer!

I finished the Fishie quilt, for our cousin in Quebec…

I think it turned out fantastic…so bright and colourful! I hand quilted it with a blue thread…

Working On The Quilt

100_2250

I’m quilting this freely, deciding exactly how as I go. I don’t know if you can see in the pictures but I’m changing embroidery floss colour each time I add a new thread – it’s interesting I think, to the eye.

I’m going to decide what to do with the background and add more beads and buttons on a second go, once I finish quilting the applique pieces. I think otherwise the beads and such will get in the way of the hoop too much.

Should have more pictures later on… 🙂

A Little Of This, A Little Of That…

I’ve been working on a bunch of things lately — I’m hoping to have some nice gifts ready to give at Christmastime!

Here is a new picture of the quilt (for my daughter) – I’ve almost completely finished the applique, so far.

Here is a picture of the blanket I’m making for my husband….I’m using some new yarn (to tie it together, I hope) and some from the stash…

Christmas Cozy Blanket

Here is one of the sweater (well, the sleeve) I’m working on – probably for me 🙂 I’m using denim style yarn and I love it so much – so soft and cozy too!

A Quilt For My Daughter!

100_1891

This is the top, so far (a good morning’s work 🙂 )…it was inspired by these photos that she LOVED…

This is the base I sewed in blues to begin with…

It feels really GOOD to be sewing again. Next up is to hand sew the motifs onto the top and then embellish them (perhaps!) with some embroidery or buttons or ?….we shall see…creativity is so much fun!
